Honest2Goodness Market 13th January 2011Newsletter

What a lovely mild spell of weather we're having at the moment! Yes, I know its showery and a bit grey, but after all that cold weather, we could do with a reminder of what our winters are normally like.

Blazing Salads Breads

We wish to extend our best wishes to the Fitzmaurice Family who have recently closed the Blazing Salads Bakery - we wish them well for their future endeavours and hope that their Deli on Drury St continues to flourish in the future.

(In the meantime,  if you are worried about not getting a weekend bread treat, you can read about the new range of breads available at the market later in the newsletter).

Jim Ryan tells me that he will have a special on diced shoulder of his free-range pork, he'll let us know on Saturday what the price per KG will be (he was too busy tending sheep when I talked to him this morning to work out his price!).

Real Olive Company will be back with us this Saturday as will Gannet Fishmongers, who tell me that they will have a full range of fish, but not a huge quantity of it, so early birds will get the best choice!

Fionnuala from Gleann Gabhar will be at the market with a range of goats milk products, and Clare from Puddleduck wants you to know that 'we will be in attendance at the market this week untill 2pm so get into us early and we would like to remind everyone to scrape out those nearly finished jars of jam and get them back into us so we can recyle them. there will be a free gift for everyone that does so for the month of january.

The Spud Man is on his way back from Wexford this afternoon with a fresh delivery of spuds and he will also have a new batch of honey so all of you honey lovers can get your fix on Saturday! He will also have new season organic vegetables grown by Frank at Elmhurst Cottage in Glasnevin and a range of vegetables & fruit, and the all important aromatics from the fields of Europe. We are going to wait another couple of weeks to restock on potted herbs, as the winter weather has had a severe impact on their viability.

We plan to use some of those aromatics in the form of chillies, garlic, ginger, lemongrass, lime as the basis for the Cafe's Thai Chicken dish for Saturday - as well as lots of Coconut Milk (available at the Pantry).

If you are planning on bringing a couple of portions of the Thai Chicken home, we would highly recommend matching it with our white wine special of the week which is our Albarino from Senorio di Rubios in Rias Baixis in Spain which is at the very special price of €13 on Saturday.

The red wine of the week is from Castello di Querceto in Chianti, and it is their 'Le Capanne' Chianti Classico with tastes of dark cherry, plum and savoury notes. It would be an ideal complement to a slow-cooked pork casserole made with Jim Ryan's special meat offer of the week! We have the wine on offer at a 20% discount, making it a very affordable €12.80 per bottle.

Frank, who runs the Bread Stall will be back with more of the new breads from the Paris Bakery (opened in Moore St a couple of months ago by Yannick and Ruth) which sold out really quickly last Saturday!

Dublin Meath Growers will be at the market with their full range of seasonal vegetables, some of which will go into the Cafe's Winter Vegetable Soup.

We also expect the return of the Nuts Stall, with a wider variety of nuts and Eastern inspired Baklava and Turkish Delight (and less of the pure sugar products!), and Pascale with her Belgian Chocolates.

The Real Curry Sauce Company will be at the market, with their full range of curry sauces from very mild to those not for the faint-hearted!

At the Pantry, we've taken delivery of a fresh batch of Gubeen Smoked Pork products, which were so popular before Christmas that Fergal Ferguson completely sold out of all produce! We didnt manage to get any Cristorra as of yet, but we do have some of the Fresh Chorizo available, along with ready to eat Chorizo and Italian-inspired Salami. We also have some of their Cheese Biscuits and mature Gubeen cheese  in stock.  We are also due for a delivery of Cooleeney Cheeses tomorrow, with some of the Crozier Blue due as part of the delivery (we hope!). And yes, the plan is to make some Granola for Saturday - apologies again for not having it last Saturday!

As you can see, lots and lots of lovely food products for you to buy on Saturday, to help you with all those healthy living aspirations! Hope to see you then...
